South Devon link road moves one step closer

The long-proposed South Devon link road moved a step closer to fruition this week, after the compulsory purchase order and side roads order were formally published.

The orders provide details of 11 properties which will be demolished as part of the scheme – two of which are privately owned – and another 85 landowners will be affected, with part of their land being required for the scheme.

Devon County Council considers the so-called Kingskerswell bypass the best solution to reduce congestion and improve air quality and road safety on the A380 between Penn Inn and Kerswell Gardens.

The side roads order authorises the county council and Torbay Council to make necessary changes to the existing road layout, as well as providing new highway and private access.

It is on track for construction to start in August 2010.
