Smoking ban ignites fears that footways will be flooded

Councillors in Scotland fear that footways are set to become flooded by seating for pubs and cafes to accommodate those forced outside by the imminent ban on smoking in enclosed public spaces. Applications for outdoor seating on footways have been low in the past in Angus, but the possibility of them becoming a smoking haven have prompted councillors to consider enforcing a ban immediately outside premises as well. Officers at ~Angus Council~ are set to write a report on the issue for the infrastructure services committee, which will then take a vote. The smoking ban comes into effect in Scotland on the 26 March, and in England a year later.
