London Councils has hit out at an Early Day Motion calling for a single waste authority in the capital to replace its ‘existing fragmented and underperforming arrangements’.

Tabled by Andrew Dismore, MP, EDM 418 argues that a single waste authority is needed, given London’s poor recycling and litter record.
However, Cllr Merrick Cockell, chair of London Councils, said it was ‘unrealistic’ to compare London - an almost wholly-urban region - with other English regions.
