Signs of a policy shift

Pressure for a wholesale review of local parking signs and lines is growing. The Department for Transport has acknowledged the need to tackle ‘confusing’ and ‘incomprehensible’ parking restrictions.
The criticisms, in an unpublished memo to the Commons transport committee obtained by the Sunday Times, suggest ministers may accept demands for a mandatory national review.
Local transport minister, Karen Buck, commended regular five-year reviews as best practice in oral evidence to MPs. Chair Gwyneth Dunwoody suggested an independent audit. Her report is due next month.
