Siemens buys out leading UK traffic enforcement company

Engineering giant Siemens has bought leading traffic enforcement organisation, Zenco Systems, for an undisclosed amount.

Since 1996 Zenco Systems has worked with councils on using CCTV video evidence to enforce traffic contraventions and has already partnered Siemens on a number of joint technology projects in Manchester and London.

Zenco’s existing Rugby premises will remain in operation and all its employees will join Siemens, which already employs more than 650 people in its traffic solutions organisation in the UK.

Gordon Wakeford, head of Siemens’ UK Mobility Division, said the company planned 'to expand Zenco’s proven civil enforcement technology through our existing worldwide operations'.

Noel Frost, CEO and commercial director of Zenco Systems, said: ‘As a small company, the ability to grow our organisation and make the most of the unique skills and knowledge we have built up is limited. We are delighted that Siemens has recognised our expertise following a number of successful projects together and look forward to the global possibilities for our enforcement solutions.’

Siemens manufactures and maintains the majority of traffic signal and control equipment across the UK and is in charge of flagship projects such as the London Congestion Charge on behalf of Transport for London.

Siemens said the value of the sale was confidential.
