Shock tactics as barriers come down in level crossing campaign

Network Rail has launched a national campaign using images of the aftermaths of crashes to highlight the dangers of motorists taking risks at level crossings.
The £3M campaign will target more than one million households with information leaflets in what the company has called the ‘most extensive public safety campaign ever run by the rail industry’.
It features photos and CCTV footage of accidents and near-misses, where drivers have attempted to cross level crossings shortly before trains were due to cross. In 2005, there were 16 collisions between trains and road vehicles at crossings. Around 10 near-misses are reported for every strike.
