Severn flooding: 'worst this century'

Flood waters have fallen across Wales and the Midlands following torrential downpours – but more rain is predicted for the rest of this week.
River levels on the Severn and Vyrnwy in Wales rose quickly towards the end of last week, causing the Environment Agency to issue flood warnings along both waterways. At Crew Green, on the border between England and Wales, where the Rivers Severn and Vyrnwy meet, river levels peaked last Friday, and the extra water caused flooding along the Severn in the following days.
The flooding, which began last week, has been described as the worst this century and in Worcester alone, the Severn rose to almost 4m above normal winter level, submerging the cricket ground and racecourse. However, water levels are now subsiding and over the weekend, fell by 20cm in just over an hour in the city.
