Scottish Tories’ £30M a year pledge to ‘fast track’ improvements

The Scottish Conservative party has promised to spend an extra £30M a year on ‘fast-tracking’ priority transport projects as part of its election manifesto, released this week.
The Conservatives considered the main trunk network outside the central belt to be in ‘a frankly, appalling state’ and required urgent work, party transport researcher, Michael Veitch, said. Roads which have been identified as requiring work are the A75, A96, A82, and the A9, which they want to see eventually dualled all the way from Perth to Inverness.
‘This is, however, not an exhaustive list, and we would be examining the road network nationwide and targeting investment, where it is required,’ Veitch added.
The Tories also plan to spend a further £15M a year on upgrading the country’s most dangerous junctions and bends, in what they call the ‘black spot’ fund. The party also sees the construction of a new Forth crossing as a priority, but it is ‘open-minded’ as to whether it should be a tunnel or a bridge.
