Scots gets a taste of the Continent with pillars of wisdom

Aberdeen City Council has unveiled nine Continental-style advertising pillars as part of a £20,000 anti flyposting initiative.
The three-metre high pillars will offer legitimate sites for advertising in the city centre by providing high-profile and affordable publicity space for promoters, thereby reducing the need for flyposting. Funded by the council’s City Growth Fund, the initiative is aimed at all local businesses, especially promoters and venue owners who want to advertise concerts and other events.
Ian Yuill, Aberdeen’s environment and infrastructure committee convener, said: ‘These pillars will be a stylish and useful addition to Aberdeen’s streets, which will help us combat the scourge of unsightly flyposting. Aberdeen will look smarter because there will be no more need to flypost – and Aberdonians will be able to visit the pillars to find lout the latest about what’s happening in the city.’
The first pillar was unveiled on St Nicholas Street last week.
