Schools learn lesson in cutting traffic

Schools with a travel plan in London have reduced the number of car journeys by an average 7%, according to new figures released by Transport for London.

The figures show around two million fewer car journeys were made last year as a result of school travel plans, but half of cars on the road during morning rush hour are still for trips to school.

Half of London’s schools now have a travel plan, with the rest due to have one in place by 2009.
