Satellite technology fails to overcome the limitations of space

Hampshire County Council is urging HGV drivers to ignore satellite navigation systems after a number of wide vehicles caused damage to properties along a particularly narrow road.
The council installed signs in the village of Exton, which read, ‘No wide vehicles. Do not follow SatNav. Very narrow lane.’
A county council spokesman said: ‘It’s a very unique circumstance as these signs aren’t measures we’d normally have explored.
‘Feedback from drivers was that they were using SatNav to navigate around the village which led to the county council taking the one-off decision to install the signs.’
He said the council had requested that Beacon Hill Lane in Exton be removed from UK Sat Nav mapping systems.
