Rooftop demonstration keeps London capital of cool

The heat is to be taken off passengers on buses that have been in service for five years or more in London.
Transport for London is painting roof panels heat-reflective white as part of the refurbishment of older buses. Almost 2,300 of the capital’s 4,900-strong fleet has had extra upper-deck opening windows installed under a programme costing £1.5M over the last two years.
City centre routes which tended to heat up the most had been TfL’s priority, said transport commissioner, Peter Hendy, but the remainder would be similarly equipped by summer 2007.
