Rochdale to replace bus station with £11.5m interchange

Transport bosses have submitted an application to Rochdale MBC for detailed planning consent for a new, £11.5m transport interchange in Rochdale town centre.

The interchange will replace the existing bus station and will be situated next to the proposed Metrolink stop.

Michael Renshaw, Greater Manchester Public Transport Executive’s (GMPTE) interim bus and rail director, said: ‘Rochdale’s new transport interchange will be a vast improvement for both passengers and bus operators, who currently use a very outdated bus station built in the 1970s.

The new interchange will provide improved passenger facilities such as a shop, a Travelshop and toilets, together with bus operator and supervisor facilities, and there will be electronic passenger information displays.’
