Roads assessment tool completes next stage

The Highways Agency has completed the first phase of its latest capability assessment tool (CAT), which now includes new indicators to increase the focus on diversity, innovation, risk management and corporate social responsibility.
It is designed to help the 33 companies which support the HA identify strengths and areas for development in the maintenance of roads.
Balfour Beatty ranked the highest overall (187.2), followed by Costain, Vinci and Atkins respectively. Vinci and Edmund Nuttall both achieved top third scores on 12 of the 24
indicators, more than any of their competitors.
AMEC scored lowest with 156.7, and achieved top third scores on only two of the 24 indicators.
Archie Robertson, chief executive of the HA, said: ‘We are pleased with the commitment of all our suppliers, in developing the assessment tool kit and progressing their own services.’
