Road safety plans in Brighton and Hove will cost nearly £1M

Brighton and Hove City Council is to invest nearly £1M of its local transport funding in road safety measures in 2007/08.
The council has earmarked £935,000 for road safety measures, including £815,000 for road engineering works and £120,000 for a Safer Routes to School scheme for St Luke’s in Queens Park.
Another £340,000 of LTP2 funds will go towards public transport, including real time bus information, and £700,000 will improve the A259 between Saltdean and Ovingdean roundabout, in partnership with East Sussex County Council. Cycle routes, footways, and street lighting will also benefit from the funding, subject to cabinet approval on 15 March.
Cllr Gill Mitchell, committee chair, said: ‘The money awarded by the Government is based on the city council’s performance between 2001/02 and 2005/06 and on its transport plan for the next five years.’
