Road contracts up for grabs as Scotland BEARs responsibility

Contracts for the operation and maintenance of trunk road networks in southeast and northeast Scotland begin this weekend.
Operating company, BEAR, will continue in its responsibility for the maintenance of more than 500km of trunk roads in the southeast, and 660km in the northeast on Sunday.
The southeast contract will see the introduction of an Incident Support Service, utilising two vehicles which will be centred on the A720 Edinbrugh City Bypass, but will also serve the eastern ends of the M8 and M9 and western end of the A1.
In addition, both contracts will see the introduction of a new winter maintenance approach involving pre-wetted salt.
BEAR Scotland will be responsible for routine inspections, repairing the surfaces of roads and bridges, general maintenance, and streetlighting and traffic signals repairs.
