Road casualties reduced

There were fewer people killed or seriously injured on Essex roads in October than any other month since figures were collated.

There were an estimated 56 KSIs on the roads last month, compared with 94 in October 2006. Essex County Council attributes the downward trend to its road safety campaign, led by the Essex Casualty Reduction Board, which involves additional road policing, publicity and education.

Cllr Norman Hume, chairman of the Essex Casualty Reduction Board, said: ‘I would take this opportunity to encourage all road users to join in and play their part in assessing their own safety and awareness to make our roads safer.’
