Resort plays host to costly rock performance

Almost 2,800t of rock have been placed to shore up a partially-collapsed seawall in Felixstowe under emergency work by Suffolk Coastal District Council .

The rocks, placed by Terry Oakes Associates, along the 400m stretch at ‘a high five-figure cost’ where the seawall failed, were used as a stopgap measure in advance of a planned-for scheme to renew the seawall and replace derelict 100-year-old groynes. A bid for a revised scheme planned for September has been submitted, despite the Government’s announcement that no funds were available for new flood-defence schemes this year (Surveyor, 25 May).
