A new report claims transport services in the Lake District should minimise visitors’ environmental impacts while increasing their experience of the national park – and increase local peoples’ access to jobs and services, too.
Produced by Steer Davies Gleave, for the National Park Authority and Cumbria County Council, it sets out a framework for developing specific initiatives and underpinning Cumbria’s next local transport plan and new transport networks.
‘We want a Lake District where transport adds value to people’s experiences of the national park, and where it enables our many visitors to enjoy the special qualities of the park in a way which both meets their needs and minimises their impact on the local environment,’ said the authority’s director of planning and partnerships, Steve Ratcliffe.
The framework will be taken forward through the Lake District National Park Partnership, which brings together local authorities and other organisations.
