Relief road will allow Coulsdon to drive ahead with regeneration

The regeneration of Coulsdon’s town centre is set to begin, following the opening of a relief road to divert local traffic from the centre.
The Coulsdon relief road bypasses the A23 London to Brighton route, with the aim of removing 80% of traffic from the town centre to improve conditions for bus passengers, walkers and cyclists.
The town centre regeneration project will include improvements to the carriageway, parking and pedestrian access, as well as extensive landscaping.
Chris Connor, director of road network management at Transport for London, said: ‘TfL has made money available through the Local Implementation Plans process to enable Croydon to start work on the project in the coming financial year. It is expected to be implemented in stages over several years.’
The south London town’s regeneration scheme is one of the mayor’s 100 public places.
