Coastal protection officers have spent the past week removing sand from a bank to use in the reinforcement of a beach.
Due to the very dry winter, rivers pouring into the sea off Christchurch in Dorset have not been strong enough to move sedimentation from Avon Beach Bay and, as a result, large sandbanks have built up.
Christchurch Council took advantage of the improved weather to get out in the bay and began removing the banks, which will be used to reinforce the Friars Cliff beach, a popular holiday spot.
Coastal protection officer, Steve Woolard, said: ‘Luckily, the predictions were correct, and this week has been perfect.’
