Regions benefit from extra TIF money

Extra funds are being made available to Cambridgeshire, Greater Manchester, and the West of England Partnership to develop Transport Innovation Fund proposals.

Transport minister, Rosie Winterton, announced that up to £1M would be made available to Cambridgeshire, £1.5M to Greater Manchester, and £675,000 to the West of England Partnership (WEB).

Winterton said: ‘This award means these areas can continue to take forward proposals for improved public transport, including local road-pricing schemes.’

Cambridgeshire County Council said the funding would be used for extra modelling work arising from the consultation over its current proposals, which include congestion charging in Cambridge (Surveyor, 19 July 2007). WEP said congestion charging would be introduced in 2013.
