Recycling beach visitors’ rubbish is so this season

North Cornwall District Council is encouraging visitors to recycle their rubbish this summer, with new bins installed at five of its beaches.

Bins for paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and cans will have clear signage and specially-designed openings. There will also be normal litter bins in place for material which cannot be recycled.

Waste minimisation manager, Verity Palk, said: ‘Up until now, we have emptied beach bins every day, and sent all the litter to landfill. But a lot of the rubbish collected from beach-users could easily be recycled, and we are keen to provide better facilities to do this.’

The trial will run throughout the summer on Harlyn Beach, Porthcothan Beach, Polzeath Beach, Summerleaze Beach and Crooklets Beach.
