Rapidly gaining approval

The first phase of a £20M bus rapid-transit system in the Gosport peninsula has been given the go ahead by Hampshire County Council.

The council’s regulatory committee approved planning permission after the Government earlier this year awarded funding to build phase 1 of the project.

The first phase of the scheme will provide a dedicated high-quality bus route along the disused railway line between Fareham and Gosport, helping reduce traffic flows into and out of the Gosport peninsula. If funding permits, phase 1 will be extended south.

The first phase of the scheme is due for completion by March 2011.
