Random testing is positive for BEAR

One in four BEAR Scotland employees tested positive in random drugs and alcohol tests last year, it has emerged.

The trunk road contractor ‘immediately suspended’ the employees concerned, resulting in three leaving the company, after the initial tests in March 2008 produced a failure rate of 25%. All employees who failed subsequent tests no longer work for the company, a spokesperson told Surveyor.

The company rejected claims in the Daily Record newspaper that no action had been taken against the employees.

‘BEAR is committed to the health, safety and welfare of our employees and all members of the public affected by any of our activities. The rigorous procedures we have in place, including our policy on random drug and alcohol testing, are a fundamental part of our commitment,’ BEAR Scotland said in a statement.
