Quay link comes under scrutiny

Greater Manchester Integrated Transport Authority (GMITA) chiefs visited Salford Quays to take a tour of work on a new Metrolink line.

Councillors Ian Macdonald and Richard Knowles, GMITA vice chair and chair of the organisation’s capital projects committee respectively, saw the progress being made on a spur from the existing Eccles line that will serve the BBC’s new northern headquarters MediaCityUK.

The new route’s foundations have been laid and work to weld the tracks together and fasten them to concrete slabs has commenced. The spur will open next summer and will run a dedicated peak-time service five times an hour. Knowles said: ‘I look forward to seeing trams running down the line next year.’
