An investigation into ways to increase the provision of good-quality cycle parking in London has been launched this week.
The London Assembly transport committee will look at the role of all the organisations involved in providing cycle parking – including Transport for London, employers and local authorities – and make recommendations on improving the availability of good facilities.
Joanne McCartney, who is leading the investigation on behalf of the transport committee, said: ‘This investigation is intended to find ways of making sure the number of spaces keeps pace with the number of people who want to use bikes.’
Key areas covered by the investigation will be to establish how parking provision can be increased through the planning system and other policy interventions. It also aims to identify what lessons can be learned from recent new developments in London.
