Probe into crossing deaths

The Health and Safety Executive has called for safety improvements to 22 bus stations in Greater Manchester, after investigating the deaths of three people and the serious injury of a fourth while using a pedestrian crossing.
It has served a formal improvement notice on Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive following incidents at Bury and Oldham local bus stations, which resulted in three fatalities and a third incident at Ashton under Lyme. David Sowerby, head of operations for the Northwest, said: ‘Each of the incidents has occurred in the past 10 months while pedestrians were using designated crossing points, and each is being investigated by HSE inspectors.’
