Priorities for Hull’s bus services

Hull City Council has saved five of the seven bus routes threatened with cancellation, due to rising fuel costs.

Last month, East Yorkshire Motor Services and Stagecoach in Hull announced cuts to the services, but the council has since conducted surveys with passengers to assess which routes are priorities to save.

This has resulted in five of the seven routes either continuing as they currently run, or being adapted to fit into other services to ensure as few residents as possible are affected. Once the bus companies notified the council of their intentions to cancel services, the council had 56 calendar days to see if any could be saved.

Graham Hall, highways and open spaces group manager, said: ‘The services that were under threat have been assessed and we are confident the majority of the travelling public’s needs have been adequately met by this rescue package.’
