Prayers answered with improvements at Abbey

Work has strated on improvements to the A5-H3 Abbey Hill junction near Milton Keynes, and is expected to be completed by early 2008.

A Milton Keynes Partnership study of the A5 trunk corridor identified that essential works were required to ensure that the highway infrastructure would be able to safely accommodate the expected increase in traffic associated with growth of the city’s volumes until 2016.

Widening work will be carried out on the A5 slip roads and on approaches to the roundabout. The embankments will also be widened to accommodate the widths of the carriageways.

Jane Hamilton, chief operating officer at Milton Keynes Partnership, said: ‘These works are necessary to ensure that the highway infrastructure can safely and efficiently handle an increase in traffic as the city continues to grow. ‘Work at Abbey Hill junction continues the programme to make improvements to the Milton Keynes highway network. We have already increased capacity of the Redmoor and Portway Junctions.’
