A Scottish whisky firm has launched a £184M claim against Moray Council, arguing its spring water supply could be compromised by a flood-alleviation scheme.
Gordon and McPhail, owner of the Benromach Distillery, argues that the £20M Burn of Mosset flood-alleviation scheme, under way at Forres, will affect its water supply. The claim is almost equal to the council’s annual budget.
A Moray council spokesman said: ‘The council spent more than £1M to carry out significant works to improve and protect the water supply for the distillery as part of the scheme, so we are surprised such a claim has been made. ‘However, negotiations on the claim are at a very early stage.’
