Portsmouth unveils efficiency unit

Portsmouth City Council has revealed it is setting up an integrated transport unit in order to improve efficiency. The new department will pool and manage all council vehicles to maximise sharing opportunities.

A transport manager will also appraise and consult on every vehicle purchasing and leasing arrangement.

John Bell, head of audit and performance improvement at Portsmouth, said the department would focus particularly on the procurement of transport services.

‘We are taking a staged approach to this but hope to expand it depending on its success,’ he said.
