’Poor’ surfacing laid bare

Work to resurface a car park 12 months ago got under way again this week, after council officers deemed the first attempt at the job was ‘substandard’.
~East Sussex County Council~ told Ringway that the surfacing material used by its subsidiary Hanson during work on the Carlisle Parade car park, in Hastings, was not as specified in the contract, and had to be replaced. It claimed parts of the new surface were already breaking up, and poor workmanship on the footway had resulted in ponding. The council routinely inspects works one year on from completion and, if all is satisfactory, a final payment is made.
