Plastic bag ban decision

London Council leaders are set to decide on whether to pursue the banning of plastic bags after 90% of Londoners responding to a survey called for action.

Fifty eight per cent of 1,752 people surveyed backed a ban and 34% a levy.

A report to London Councils leaders’ committee this week advises that a levy would be opposed by the Treasury, and difficult to administer, but there would be problems with enforcing a ban in outer London.
