Planners agree strategy to reduce Hull flood risk

Hull planners have agreed they must consider the impact that the city’s future developments will have on flooding.

They have drawn up the Strategic Flood Risk Assessment, which will be used to guide future planning decisions and considers all flooding scenarios, including those experienced this summer.

The city council planning committee agreed that undeveloped land in the most at-risk areas should be set aside for floodwater storage, and all new projects must include flood proofing and raised floor levels for all high-risk areas.

The city will also be divided into six different areas of flood risk to guide planning decisions.

Chair of the committee, John Fareham, said the recommendations would help provide certainty to developers and investors.
