Stockport Council has launched a pioneering new A-Z map covering the whole borough, aimed at encouraging people to walk or cycle instead of using their car.
The Green A-Z shows quiet routes, parks, cycle-friendly routes, local shops, pubs and cafes, places of interest and bus stops.
By categorising main routes according to the level of traffic, the amount of greenery and the condition of the route, the maps are a far cry from conventional A-Zs. Cllr David White, executive member for Transportation, said: ‘The Green A-Zs are an innovative way of encouraging people to leave their cars at home for short trips, take more exercise and make streets safer by having more people on them.
‘It also gives people a chance to view their neighbourhood in a totally different way.’
