Pilot proves too pricey

 
Councillors have voted to reduce the extent of an over-budget national road safety pilot project for St Albans in Hertfordshire.
The scheme, one of 10 national demonstration projects for busy shopping streets, had an original budget of £1.8M but was predicted to cost as much as £5M in the autumn (Surveyor, 29 September 2005).
