Patrols are Forth emergency service

Transport Scotland is extending its ‘pioneering’ patrol service in a bid to tackle hold-ups near the Forth Road Bridge.

The organisation’s trunk road incident support service (TRISS) reduces congestion caused by incidents and breakdowns by clearing up incidents on busy routes, in order to allow police to concentrate on other core activities.

A TRISS van has been assigned to patrol Fife’s southbound approaches towards the bridge to monitor for incidents during morning and evening rush hours. The vehicles currently patrol trunk roads in and around Glasgow, and on approaches to Edinburgh.

Transport Scotland network operations manager, Jonny Moran, said: ‘Expanding into this location means we can help traffic flow in one of the main commuter routes in and out of Edinburgh.
