A large-scale endeavour to save lives through safer roads was recognised at the inaugural TEC, Surveyor and EuroRAP Passive Safety Award 2007 at Traffex.
Transport Scotland won the award for its commitment to reducing roadside risk, including installing safer sign posts, traffic signal poles, and large posts for the protection of motorists.
The project, which was first implemented 12 months ago, will cover 3,500km of trunk road network in Scotland. Transport Scotland has invested £1m in passive safety so far, and hopes to make it an ongoing project. Speaking at the awards ceremony, EuroRAP chairman, John Dawson, said the judging panel was impressed with Transport Scotland’s ‘mass-action programme’, as well as its commitment to passive safety.
