Bournemouth Borough Council is set to introduce a digital mobile traffic-enforcement system, to crack down on irresponsible parking, particularly outside schools and at bus stops.
The council claims to be the first outside London to roll out the system, which is housed in a dedicated vehicle. The system is loaded with the geographic locations, traffic regulation order and the times of enforcement zones on the Bournemouth road network.
The vehicle will be used to automatically capture offenders who park irresponsibly and cause the road to be unsafe. The photographic evidence will then be sent to the vehicle owner, and used to issue a £70 penalty to the offender.
Councillor Robert Lawton, cabinet member for environment, said: ‘This system offers proven benefits to residents and businesses alike by reducing the number of road accidents, especially children, improving the reliability of the bus service, and reducing the impact of congestion.’ The council purchased the system from West Country-based firm SEA Group. It will be introduced in March.
