Panic buying after attacks

Attacks by Essex drivers on parking attendants have prompted action.

The incidents, including an attendant being threatened with a bottle and a female being shoved to the ground, have forced Colchester Borough Council to invest in panic buttons linked to the police for staff.
The devices are made by Orbis Monitoring and are specifically designed for lone workers. They plug into mobile phones worn on the shoulder.
Parking operations manager, Stephen Brown, said: ‘The public are becoming increasingly aware that mobiles worn on shoulder holsters could automatically trigger a police response and legal proceedings, if attendants are verbally or physically threatened.’
