Oxford drivers get message

Six key locations on the roads into Oxford are to be equipped with motorway-style electronic trouble-shooting message boards.

Oxfordshire County Council says the signs will, initially, give advance warning of road works, incidents and lack of room at park-and-ride facilities.

They will be deployed next spring, and information will later include journey times by road to park-and-ride facilities and by bus to the city centre, and alternative car parks when congestion is severe.

The signs are to appear on the A40, A420, A4074 and A44. The Highways Agency is responsible for the A34, but the county is in discussions to put similar signs on the road.
