Ordering tickets by mobile phone is textbook stuff

Bus passengers travelling with Go North East are now able to order and receive their tickets by mobile phone.

In what is described as a UK first, Go North East developed the ‘txt2go’ service in partnership with international IT firm, Atos Origin, and mobile ticketing specialist Swiftpass.

From this week, passengers are able to receive a digital ticket direct to their mobile phones just minutes after ordering it by text. The phone screen displaying the ticket information is then shown to the driver as the passenger gets on the bus. The cashless, paperless tickets can be ordered any time by sending a simple text to 60060, and is so fast tickets can be bought while waiting for buses to arrive.

Martin Harris, commercial director with Go North East, said: ‘As people come to rely more and more on communicating by mobile phone and computer, it is the ideal way to offer tickets for bus travel.’
