Orbital bus idea is doing the rounds

Transport bosses in Edinburgh are considering plans for an orbital bus rapid-transit system.

The core route of the service would be from Edinburgh Airport in the west, via Edinburgh Park and the city bypass corridor to a new park-and-ride site. Once developed, the Edinburgh orbital bus rapid-transit system (EOBRT) would integrate the growing network of park-and-ride sites around the south of the city. The BRT would use the hard shoulders on the city bypass.

Cllr Russell Imrie, chair of the South East of Scotland Transport Partnership (SEStran), said: ‘The proposed EOBRT system will serve up to six million travellers a year.

‘This represents a major contribution to SEStran’s goal of getting people out of their cars and on to public transport, while ensuring that the needs of business are well served.’
