Opening up to Gateway

Construction of the Mersey Gateway Bridge took a step forward last week, after the Environment Agency withdrew its objections to the £431M scheme.

The public inquiry into the Gateway project heard that both the EA and Natural England had withdrawn their objections.
A spokesman for the project welcomed the news as a ‘significant development’.

Halton Borough Council also rejected opponents’ alternative plans to toll the existing Silver Jubilee Bridge rather than build the new bridge. Instead, plans remain for both bridges to be tolled.
