On the attack with cameras

Traffic attendants in Londonderry will be the first in Northern Ireland with miniature video cameras in their hats to help prevent attacks and settle arguments.

The Roads Service and National Car Parks are considering trials of the cameras, following their success in Salford, where a 30% reduction in assaults has been recorded.

Londonderry has reportedly seen six assaults and six cases of verbal abuse on attendants since last July. The camera lens will be clearly visible and linked to a portable hard drive.
