The cost of civil engineering projects in and around London could be forced up by investment for the Olympic Games, it was warned this week.
The £3.6bn budget for infrastructure and civil engineering, coming at the same time as other major schemes, such as widening the M25 and a new river crossing in east London, will create competition for resources.
‘Short-term local price fluctuations and resource pressures are likely to result,’ said project and cost consultancy, Davis Langdon, which produced a report on the issue. The £3.6bn, covering schemes such as the East London line and Docklands light rail extensions, represents 55% of the value of typical infrastructure spending in London over a seven-year period.
