Olive branch offers relief

Merseytravel has given the go ahead for a £7.6M scheme to provide the Port of Liverpool with a direct rail link to the West Coast Main Line.
The project is aimed at easing road congestion by moving freight in and out of the docks more quickly. Partners in the project include Mersey Docks and Harbour Company, Network Rail and Northern Way.
The schemes include reopening a disused stretch of line known as Olive Mount Chord, which has been closed for 20 years. Work is expected to be completed in 2008.
