Oil city at forefront of hydrogen project

Plans for a 30-mile ‘hydrogen highway’ in Aberdeen have been unveiled as part of a wider strategy to position Aberdeenshire as a global energy hub.

The highway will stretch from Aberdeen Airport and the bridge of Don to Peterhead, and fuel points will be established along the route.

Aberdeen City and Shire Economic Future has teamed up with energy industry bodies to launch a public-private sector partnership to create the Energetica plan, which will include residential, leisure, business, and education facilities.

The £1.75bn project has the backing of Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeenshire CC, the Scottish Government and US billionaire, Donald Trump. Regional transport partnership Nestrans is playing a key role in the project, which highlights the importance of transport infrastructure to enable future growth of the county.
