‘Odd solution’ key to beating bank holiday jams

A lane closure last week helped to ensure bank holiday traffic in a Southwest town was less congested.
The Highways Agency said that coning off one of the two access lanes on the western approach to the village of Dobwalls so that vehicles do not have to merge had proved a success for the last two summers.
A spokesman for the Highways Agency said that while it may ‘seem an odd solution’, despite the usual bank holiday queues – flows can reach 25,000 during the summer – flows were better than prior to the scheme. A planning inspector is considering proposals for a bypass of Dobwalls.
